Call for Individual Consultant for Developing the Online Training Course: Greening STEM Education

Terms of Reference

The UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) and JP.ik are jointly implementing a project “AI and ICT to foster inclusive, sustainable, and equitable learning environments” aimed at enhancing inclusive and sustainable education in Kenya through digital innovation and AI. Within the framework of this initiative, UNESCO IITE is seeking an experienced consultant to design, develop, and pilot an online training course on Greening STEM Education.

This course will equip educators with strategies to integrate environmental sustainability into STEM education using ICT, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). The content should emphasize climate awareness, green practices, and environmental responsibility in the classroom using digital tools.

 

Objectives of the Assignment

The goal of this assignment is to develop a high-quality, self-paced online training course for educators focused on the integration of environmental sustainability into STEM education using ICT and AI-based tools.

Tasks and Deliverables

The consultant is expected to:

  1. Design the Course Framework
  • Submit a course outline with learning outcomes and module structure by November 21, 2025
  1. Develop Educational Content
  • Create multimedia content (videos, slides, interactive activities, textual tutorials) and formative assessments for 4–5 modules, each 90–120 minutes in length
  • Include at least 2 videos and one interactive task per module
  • Submit full draft of the course by February 2, 2026
  1. Design Assessments and Certification Materials
  • Interim and final assessments (quizzes, practical tasks) for course participants
  • Submit by February 2, 2026
  1. Prepare and Conduct Webinars
  • Plan and organize two webinars on the topic of the course for educators globally:
    • One introductory presentation session
    • One Q&A / reflection session
  • Submit webinar outlines and invite list by February 2, 2026
  • Conduct both webinars from February 29 to March 20, 2026
  • Submit recordings and presentations by March 30, 2026
  1. Finalize and Submit All Course Materials
  • Final course package including:
    • Finalized content
    • Webinar materials
    • Assessment tools and certificates
    • Link to uploaded course (UNESCO IITE will coordinate hosting)
    • Summary report (min. 3 pages) on activities
  • Deadline for submission: March 30, 2026

Submission Requirements for Deliverables

  • Language: English
  • Image format: JPEG, PNG, SVG (resolution 4000×3000 min.)
  • Video format: MPEG-4/H.264, Full HD 1080p minimum, 4K preferred
  • All materials must be compatible with common LMS platforms
  • All content to be published under CC BY 4.0 license

 

Consultant Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Education, Environmental Studies, STEM Education, or related fields
  • At least 5 years of experience in instructional design or e-learning development
  • Demonstrated experience in developing online learning resources
  • Knowledge of digital tools and best practices for integrating sustainability into STEM
  • Familiarity with instructional design principles and adult learning methodologies
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
  • Ability to deliver high-quality multimedia educational content independently
  • Experience working on international or intergovernmental education projects is a plus
